I love making couture wedding gowns. It gives me great joy to work with a client on her dream wedding gown, and see her excitement at each fitting as her gown is created.
Over the last few months, I have been working on a vintage-inspired gown along with its matching mantilla veil. I knew from the first time I met Bernadette that white or ivory were not her colours, and so we went shopping together for the perfect fabric. We were in a fabric shop in Melbourne, and within ten minutes I had picked out her fabrics: silk charmeuse in the colour Blush for the gown, and French chantilly lace in antique silver for the lace accents on the dress, and edging for the veil. Initially she said she didn’t want to wear a veil, but I had other ideas…
Her gown is figure-hugging, asymmetrically ruched and draped through the bodice, falling softly to the floor. There is a lace feature on the bodice, and a stunning lace flower beaded with Swarovski crystals adorns the right hip. The back features covered buttons and loops and a short train. Her veil is a traditional mantilla, which is a single tier veil in chapel length with French chantilly lace on the edges. Very vintage-inspired, yet with a modern twist.
Bernadette and Franco were married on 6th May, 2012. Here are the happy couple, just after the ceremony.
As for me, well the work continues….
